Tag/Day 10.1 auf der/on CARNIVAL SPIRIT in Kahului, Maui, HI

Meine frühere Chefin hat dort mit ihrer Familie eine Ferienhaus und schwärmte immer von diesem Paradies.



My former boss and her family had a vacation home and always rhapsodized on this paradise.

The arrival was not like paradise like you expect to have to the Garden of Eden.



Die Einfahrt ist jedoch nicht so paradiesisch, wie man sich den Eintritt in den Garten Edens vorstellt.

Aber besser hier als in Lahaina: dort muss getendert werden.



But better here than in Lahaina: there you need to tender.

Our request to limit the fruit plate to regular size was followed.



Unserer Bitte den Früchteteller wieder auf eine normale Größe zu bringen, ist man gefolgt.

Heute versuche ich mich mal an Belgischen Waffeln. Auch nicht schlecht. Ordnungsgemäß melden wir uns bei der Restaurant-Leitung ab, damit sie weiss, dass wir morgen nicht zum Frühstücken kommen und sie heute Abend eine Party feiern können, weil wir nicht an Bord sind...



Today I tried to have some Belgian waffles. But not bad. For a good order's sake we kept the restaurant management informed that we will not return tonight and they can celebrate a party and we will not show up for breakfast as we will not be onboard...

At the coffee bar we met Candeeh who said good-bye to us. Unfortunately I did not noted her friend's name. She was like Gabriella someone who took care that I must not never die of thirst and my Diet Coke glass was always filled.



An der Kaffeebar treffen wir Candeeh, von der wir uns verabschieden. Leider haben wir von ihrer Freundin nicht den Namen notiert. Sie war wie Gabriella auch eine, die immer dafür sorgte, dass mein Glas Cola Light nicht leer blieb.

Also Aloha auf Maui.

Who stayed on board did not need to walk far away to buy everything and can tell at home that they have been on Hawai'i.



Auch wer an Bord blieb brauchte nicht weit zu laufen, um alles zu kaufen, um zu Hause erzählen zu können, dass man auf Hawai'i war.

In sofern äußerst praktisch.



So far it was very practical.

As usually there were the complimentary shuttles to the shopping fascilities.



Wie üblich gab es die kostenlose Shuttlebusse zu den Einkaufsmöglichkeiten.

Und auch eine Karte, um sich mal zu orientieren.

Und die ganzen Taxipreise als Orientierung.

Sowie Hinweise auf öffentliche Verkehrsmittel.



So some information on public transportation.

In front of the terminal building we got lost because there were no signs anymore. When I asked to get out a Carnival-crew member just gave a snotty answer that I was already out. When I apologied that I asked her she felt that she did not give me an appropiate answer and said that she had no idea and all she knew was where to send the tour participants.



Vor dem Cruise Terminal haben wir die Orientierung verloren, weil es keine Schilder mehr gab. Auf die Frage, wie es weiter nach draußen geht, gab es von der Carnival-Mitarbeiterin nur die patzige Antwort, dass man schon draußen sei. Als ich mich bei ihr entschuldige, dass ich sie gefragt hätte, merkt sie wohl, dass sie sich im Ton vergriffen hat und meinte sie nur, dass sie es auch nicht wüsste und nur wüsste, wo die Tourbusse abfahren.

Um den Hafen zu verlassen, muss man nämlich an den Schlangen der Tourenteilnehmer vorbei.

There paiagirl (Frances from CA) was waiting for us who flew to this place to show us Maui and O'ahu.



Dort erwartet uns schon paiagirl (Frances aus Kalifornien), die extra hierher geflogen ist, um uns Maui und O'ahu zu zeigen.

Endlich wurden wir so begrüßt, wie ich mir das immer erträumt habe.



Finally we were welcomed like I always dreamed of.

Each of us got two Leis. One made of fresh orchid blossoms.



Jeder bekommt von uns zwei Leis. Einen aus frischen Orchideenblüten.

Und einen haltbaren, den wir mit nach Hause nehmen können.



And one permanent, which we can take home.

All victims around were looking totally jealously.



Alle Zeugen rundum gucken total neidisch.

Später erfahren wir, dass die haltbaren Leis von ihr selbst gemacht wurden und bestimmte Blumen darstellen sollen.



Later we learned that the permanent Leis were made by Frances herself and should represent certain flowers.

More later we learned that Frances' friend show how to make a Lei manually.



Noch später erfahren wir, dass Frances sich das von ihrer Freundin hat zeigen lassen.

Die wiederum hat für Astrid einen anderen Lei in Handarbeit gebunden.



She hand-maded another special one for Astrid.

We are very proud and happy to have such a friend... By the way she is looking for some cruise-friends who can take her around in Copenhagen and Lisbon in fall... (We occupied already Amsterdam and Bruges!!!). She will take revanche when you visit California. Her January 2012 cruise on NORWEGIAN JADE to Israel was just cancelled. A new schedule will be released soon.



Wir sind sehr stolz und glücklich, solche eine Freundin zu haben... Übrigens sucht sie noch Kreuzfahrtfreude, die ihr Kopenhagen und Lissabon im Herbst zeigen... (Wir haben schon Amsterdam und Brügge besetzt!!!). Sie revanchiert sich bestimmt genauso, wenn ihr mal in Kalifornien seid. Ihre Cruise Januar 2012 auf der NORWEGIAN JADE nach Israel ist gerade storniert worden. Da folgt ein neuer Plan.
