Kona sieht schon eher nach Zivilisation aus.



Kona looked again like civilisation.

I heared that many fascilities were destroyed by a tsunami wave after the earthquake in Japan in March 2011.



Irgendwie habe ich gehört, dass hier einiges zerstört gewesen sein soll, als nach dem Erdbeben in März 2011 eine Tsunamiwelle auf die Stadt gerollt sein soll.

Nichts erinnert an die Bilder, die wir aus Japan kennen.



But nothing looked like the pictures we knew from Japan.

And he looked liek Franz. Torsten described him very well. We would not need the sign.



Und da wartet wohl Franz. Torsten hat ihn so gut beschrieben: Ein Schild hätten wir nicht gebraucht.

Torsten hatte uns gestern erzählt, dass wohl hier noch etwas vom Tsunami zu sehen sei, weil das Restaurant damals von Kanus eingedrückt wurde.



Torsten told us yesterday that we should see here the restaurant which was damaged by the canoes which were pushed through the windows into the restaurant by the tsunami wave.

They were stored here like nothing happened.



Die stehen hier als ob nichts gewesen wäre.

Franz erklärt uns, dass die ganze Promenade wohl beschädigt wäre.



Franz explained that the whole promenade was damaged.

And all the businessmen pre-financed the reconstruction works of the street.



Und die Geschäftsleute wären wohl in Vorlage getreten, um die Straße reparieren zu lassen.

Schließlich ist das wohl die Lebensader. Was nützt der kostenlose Kaffee, wenn man nicht hier mit dem Auto ranfahren kann???



This is Kona's lifeline. The free Kona coffee would not help to find new guests if you cannot come by car.

Here you had not impression that something happened. You can rent a surfboard or something else like nothing happened.



Man hat nicht so den Eindruck, dass was passiert ist. Man kann ganz normal Surfbretter usw. ausleihen.

Ist das nicht der Club, der von Rick in Magnum betrieben wurde, aber nach King Kamehameha sind wohl die Hälfte aller Clubs und Hotels auf Hawai'i benannt.



Was not this Rick's club from Magnum??? But half of the clubs and hotels on Hawai'i named after King Kamehameha.

And there was Torsten's van.



Bald sind wir schon am Bus von Torsten.

Er meinte schon, dass es eine Tortur für uns werden würde, und das sogar wörtlich, wie man sieht...



He said that the tour might become a torture for us and by the word... (in German Tortur = torture in English).

Also schön nach diesem Schild gucken.

Damit der Einstieg nicht zur Tortur wird, gibt es eine Einstiegshilfe...

Hier sieht man doch, wie die Uferpromenade ausgebessert wird.

Über die Kaimauer ist die Tsunami-Welle gekommen.



The tsunami wave jumped over the quay wall.

Pretended the construction of this hotel in the shape of a ski jump because the ancient Hawai'ian were sliding downhills on snow...



Angeblich wäre das Hotel in der Form einer Skischanze gebaut worden, weil die alten Hawai'ianer schon hier auf Schnee runtergerutscht seien...

Da der Ironman mitlerweile hier ausgetragen wird, ist es ganz normal, dass auch Laufsportveranstaltungen am Wochenende stattfinden.



As the Ironman event was here now it was quite normal that there were run events every weekend.

Torsten already advised that he will have some coffee from his neighbour (Makua Coffee) for us who harvested and roasted herself. Of course we took a bag for Bruno to test.



Torsten hatte schon avisiert, dass er Kaffee von einer Nachbarin (Makua Coffee) dabei hat, die selbst erntet und röstet. Wir nehmen natürlich für Bruno ein Paket mit, um den zu testen.

Wir haben sehr viel Platz im Bus.



We had a lot of space in this van.
